fourth of july at the ranch.

Yesterday, after attending my neighborhood's annual Fourth of July parade (seen above), I embarked on a journey out to the country. Think big rickety front-porch swings, miles of fences surrounding cattle, and dusty open skies. Beautiful in a simple, quiet, natural way.

The house we stayed in, belonging to my friend's parent's friends (it's not really that complicated), was very old and furnished with lots of antique and vintage looking decor.

I loved how rustic and old-fashioned it was; like a trip back in time. In their front yard, they had a hummingbird feeder. I must have stood out there for ten minutes, trying to get a decent shot of the fluttering birds.

After settling in and walking around for a little bit, we set out for the ranch in a falling-apart pickup truck. We got to see some horses and cows. We fed them and pet them, too. (The food smelled nasty, just sayin'.)

I'm not gonna lie, I kinda felt like the Pioneer Woman.

After that, it started to get hot, so we went swimming. They have this water reservoir filled up with well water and we cooled off there. And even though the car thermometer said it was up to 116 degrees at one point, I was cold when I climbed out.

We grilled burgers for dinner (classic). It was delicious but I was so full I could barely finish mine.

Also, I had been looking forward to the fireworks, but it turns out they were actually Sunday night, which seems very illogical to me. The holiday was on Monday, guys! Anyway, that was disappointing, but I lived.

Happy Birthday, America! And yes, that is a cat in that wagon.

I had a great time on the ranch, but I wouldn't be lying if I said I was happy to be home. I'm super tired, so I'm just going to veg out for a while. Have a great day!

  4. Lovely photos... as always. Looks like you had lots of fun!
And I totally know what you mean about 4th of July fireworks on the 3rd... it definitely makes no sense! We moved to a new area last year, and that's what they do here. I mean, what's the point of independence day if you can't have fireworks? :)

  5. STUPID BRADY. Who sets fireworks off on the 3rd? That's pointless.

Also, now that I know you put pictures up here, I am requiring you to put them up on Facebook. :)

Also also, I will stop commenting so much on your blog. It's fun though/

  7. Gorgeous photos. For some reason, I thought the shot of coals & flames was... burnt burgers & flames. Yeah, really tasty. But then I realised! Anyway, as always, Kendall your photos are gorgeous.
