soul of metamorphosis

"Autumn is the very soul of metamorphosis, a time when the world is poised at the door of winter -- which is the door of death -- but has not yet fallen. It is a world of contradictions: a time of harvest and plenty but also of cold and hardship. Here we dwell in the midst of life, but we know most keenly that all things must pass away and shrivel. Autumn turns the world from one thing into another." (from The Girl who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of her Own Making)

Happy September!

I'm excited, because to me, September means the start of autumn, of chilly weather and pumpkins and all other amazingly beautiful things. Yeah, it was another hot one today (surprise, surprise) but just seeing 'September' on the calender means I'm that much closer to what I've been waiting for. I get a little giddy every time I see leaves spiral to the ground.

I am so ready for this.

But then again.

September also means lots of changes and new beginnings (I realize that is redundant). I'm bracing myself for that.

For instance: tonight is my first soccer practice of the season. I need to dig out my cleats and shin guards from the vortex that is our shelves. I need to get ready to run a lot, which, thankfully, is something I've already been doing. I need to get back into the routine of things .

I'm also starting confirmation classes in a few weeks, preparing for the real thing in November. I'm a little apprehensive about it, but I'm sure it will be fine. One step at a time...

There are new academic endeavors -- dealing with lots more homework than ever before. Having to write an opinion piece and to present it to the class, every six weeks, the thought of which scares me to death. And maybe joining some a club or two, doing some volunteering, etc. Stuff like that.

I guess this all ties into my last post. Branching out is good. Trying new things is good. Autumn is the perfect time for changes, as it is the soul of metamorphosis. I'm just going to do to my best to embrace it -- everything.

Right now, though, I can think of about ten other things I should be doing besides blogging, including but not limited: to reading the Iliad, doing Pre-Cal homework, editing a picture for a class, reading an ancient Greek play about Dionysus (god of wine and partying and CHAOS WOO!) and starting on the 82342910 other projects I have. So, have a lovely day!

P.S. Thanks for all your comments on my last post. They were really encouraging and mean a lot to me. Also, the answers post will be up soon! There's still some time if you want to ask any more questions, though. :)

  1. AWESOME pics! Especially, the leaf picture. From my dashboard it looked like a leaf with glitter on it.

  3. I melt in anything about about 20 {maybe 70 farenheit?} so I could never live in Texas. There would just be too much sweat!
Good luck with school. Blogging as homework would be fun... As long as the class didn't have to read it!
And, the title of the book is amazing.
